Instructions: How To Make a DIY Paw Print Coffee Mug

Before you get started make sure that the surface of the mug is clean. You can use rubbing alcohol to do this.

Step One

Print out a paw print silhouette. If you don’t have a silhouette or stencil to use, you can print one out here. Or you can trace a silhouette of your pup!

Step Two

Once you’ve printed the paw print, cut it out using an X-Acto Knife.

Step Three

Now that you have cut out the stencil, tape it to the coffee mug.

Step Four

Now you’re ready to paint! Use a paint brush and start painting over the stencil. Be careful around the edges of the stencil so that the paint is smooth. Apply additional coats of paint as needed.

Step Five

Carefully remove the stencil from the mug. Allow the coffee mug to air dry for about an hour.

Step Six

After you’ve allowed the mug to air dry for an hour, place it in a cool oven.  Then, turn the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and oven cure for an hour. Turn off the heat, and then let the cup fully cool in the oven. Note – It’s important to let the oven pre-heat with the dish already in it so that your dish won’t crack.

Your mug should be dishwasher safe once it has had time to cure in the oven. However, I take a little bit more TLC when washing any of my hand painted dishware. I usually wash them by hand and try to avoid scrubbing directly over the painted area. : )
