Plastic Surgery For Dogs Is A Thing, In Case The World Isn’t Weird Enough For You

Makeovers are one thing. But plastic surgery for dogs??? It’s not unheard of.

Some procedures are purely cosmetic (*cough* Neuticles *cough*) but others help dogs with different health issues.

Wrinklefaces like Shar-Peis can trap bacteria between their folds that lead to infection, and a “facelift” can be a preventative measure. Bulldogs and other short-snouts sometimes receive nose jobs to help with breathing issues. And other dogs, like our pal Obie the Doxie, benefit from excess skin procedures after drastic weight loss.

Still, there are cases of humans giving their pups surgery just for looks. Many vets will not perform these procedures, but there are exceptions.

Dr Edgard Brito, a veterinarian from Sao Paulo, Brazil, perks up the ears of Dobermans and other dogs with Botox. Dr. Brito said:

“Why not be beautiful? It’s very important. If the pet is beautiful, the owner is happy and wants to show their pet to their friends.”

Surgery costs can be very high, and of course any procedure should be prescribed and performed by a veterinarian. What do you think?
