Why Does This Dog’s Jizz Cost $2,000?!

Why Does This Dog’s Jizz Cost $2,000?!

Traditionally viewed as a stuffy, hoighty toighty affair, the Westminster Dog Show hides a dirty secret. A secret about sperm.

Okay, so it’s not really a secret, but you may not know that many of the “pure breed” dogs that compete in the Westminster are the product of a lucrative sales practice: the sale of high-quality, breed-specific dog splooge.

Hey! Somebody tell that guy in the picture to watch where his hands are going!

One of the most historical strains of skeet comes from an Old English Sheepdog whose preserved semen is 17-years-old. The seller charges as much as $2,000 for a dose.

The dog splooge industry is so big and so competitive that major lawsuits have been filed over unsatisfactory samples. According to Bloomberg:

In 2012, a jury awarded $200,000 to a Pennsylvania breeder who had sued a veterinary hospital for accidentally defrosting (and thus destroying) more than 100 samples from her champion poodles.

Boy, these dog breeders sure take their sperm seriously. Thank Dog that’s something we don’t have to worry about around BarkPost. We neuter pretty compulsively around these parts!
