Missing Pennsylvania Pup Reunited with Mom after Being Found in Oregon

Pennsylvania-native Jack Russell Terrier, Gidget, flew 3,000 miles to make it back to her owner’s door after being found in Oregon — five months after she went missing.

She was seen wandering in Tualatin – a Portland suburb – and taken to the Bonnie L. Hays Animal Shelter. Shelter staff found her owner with a microchip and learned that Gidget had been missing since April 22.

No one knows how she traveled to Oregon, but the shelter knew they wanted her to make it home safely. Her owner couldn’t afford the travel to Oregon to retrieve Gidget. PetLink, the microchip company that helped identify Gidget, offered to cover the expenses for her to go home.

She flew home Sept. 23, and can now live out her barkily ever after with her hooman.

“Gidget is going home because her owner did everything right,” shelter manager Deborah Wood said in a statement. “This dog had a microchip and the owner’s information was current in the PetLink.net registration database. We wish every one of the 4,000 stray animals that come to our shelter every year had up-to-date information like this.”
