The Entire World Rallied To Save These Dogs From A Porcupine Attack

Porcupines aren’t something most of us ever expect to see, and we certainly don’t expect our dogs to encounter them on a routine play session through a field – but that’s exactly what happened to three dogs, named Mahola, Nestah, and Soljah, in Canada.

All of the dogs were injured in the porcupine attack. However, Mahalo was nearly killed by the porcupine because several of the quills pierced her heart and lungs.

The pups’ owner, Dennis, was beside himself with grief afraid that he would lose his beloved dogs. His friend Mike launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to cover the staggering costs of medical care for the pups.

The story instantly went viral with thousands of people donating money to save the lives of these dogs.

The fund was initially geared to pay for Mahalo’s care, but the other pups developed complications, as well.

Nestah, the youngest of the three has been back to the vet several times to have quills, that were previously hidden, removed from his spine and cheeks. Last night, Dennis found a quill poking through Nestah’s jaw.

But the prognosis for all three of the dogs is excellent. You can tell by the smile on Mahalo’s face (pictured above) how happy she is to be alive!

This story likely wouldn’t have such a happy ending if it wasn’t for the power of social media and the amazing compassion of humans all over the world. No one ever likes to see pups in pain, but by sharing these stories, we can drive action and help those in need, just like everyone did for these dogs. Everyone who donated to their GoFundMe and shared their story helped fund the medical care that kept these pups from dying.

High paws to everyone involved! And big kisses and lots of belly rubs to Mahalo, Nestah, and Soljah!
