Sian Barrett has had her more than 180-pound Great Dane since birth, but his intimidating size is all just a clever ruse. Presley is afraid of just about everything, from tiny dogs and vacuums to the terrible rustle of a plastic grocery bag.

He most certainly won’t be chasing around old men dressed as various horror movie figures with a gang of meddling kids, that’s for sure.

is it safe

“Most of the things that you would think Presley would be scared of he isn’t and is absolutely terrified of really trivial bits,” says Barrett. It’s almost as if the bigger the dog, the more of a giant baby he becomes! But Presley’s fear of the slightest breeze doesn’t stop him from being the sweetest, skyscraper of a softie.

hiding from tiny dog

Presley’s momma knows what really lies at the heart and soul of a Dane:

People obviously are very struck by just how big Great Danes are when they first meet them, but Presley wins a lot of people around with his personality. He is a very patient dog. We were out on a walk on [sic] time when we met a woman with her crying child. The kid was screaming and Presley didn’t like the noise at first, he was a bit scared, but she [sic] soon as the girl walked over to him she just stopped crying immediately.

Quick! Bring this dog to all the colleges during finals week—he’ll find plenty of crying humans there.

on mom's lap

Barrett doesn’t skirt around the truth with this guy. “He’s a wimp,” she says, plain and simple. This dog would have no problem jumping into Shaggy’s arms, teeth a-chattering, to avoid a mouse scurrying across the floor. In fact, Presley was once spooked by a little Westie at the park; they are giant, fearless creatures. (Just go with it.)

i'll just wait here

“Presley wouldn’t come back out until the other dog had gone and he knew he was safe,” Barrett says. “His temper doesn’t match his size at all—he’s 38 inches at the shoulder, but scared of everything.” It’s okay, Presley. Fear is how you know you’re alive—no point trying to hide it.

scaredy cat

Despite his flawless imitation of the most frightened cartoon pooch on the planet, this big boy’s gentle personality gets him a lot of love. He’s even attended and starred in Crufts dog shows as a model citizen for the breed. We admit, it’s hard not to be completely won over by that face. I mean seriously, Presley carries around a cushion at home as his very own security blanket. Not a rag, not a toy. A cushion.

This dog is in a constant state of ruh-roh. Stand tall, Rooby-Roo, the ghosts wouldn’t dare try to spook you.
