Pilley has been diligently teaching Chaser like a child for the past 9 years. And her lessons have clearly paid off, because now Chaser is known as the smartest dog in the world.

“My best metaphor is that she is a two-year-old toddler. She has the capabilities of a two-year-old,” said Pilley on 60 minutes with Anderson Cooper.

While an average 2-year-old knows and understands about 300 words, Chaser knows over a 1000 words and is still learning.

She is also able to correctly identify over 95% of her 1000+ toys and differentiate between certain basic nouns and verbs.

Chaser is clearly the apple of Pilley’s eye, because not only has he spent a significant amount of time teaching her, she’s also the subject of a paper Pilley and his colleague Alliston Reid, published in a peer reviewed scientific journal titled — Border collie comprehends over 1,000 object names as verbal referents.

With her book, “Chaser: Unlocking the Genius of the Dog Who Knows a Thousand Words,” hitting the top of Amazon’s Movers and Shakers list, she’s well on her way to being known as the Einstein of the dog world.
